Opinion

From Library Staff

Living with your aunt who works in restaurants and moves often isn't easy, but getting involved in small town politics is totally unexpected, even for Hope. Recommended by Gudrun

It’s June, 2020. This book was first published in the year 2000, but it’s the right book for what ails you now. Worthy of the Newberry Award. Worthy of your time. Read it.

True to its title, this teen fiction book is full of hope and heart. I recommend this quick read for tweens, teens and adults of all ages who could use a little hope. It is a 2001 Newbery Honor Book. I have read it more than once.

Joan Bauer, is probably one of my favourite authors. Her writing, is soulful, she knows how to make a reader feel an emotion. Brilliant book, if you liked this, I would recommend "Close To Famous" By Joan Bauer, and also "Almost Home" By Joan Bauer. When I read Joan Bauer, I read it fully, because its a real page turner.

Engaging YAL. Not especially well-written and at times too much crammed in to ratchet up the stress but overall a good read with endearing characters.

I think that this book is awesome. I feel like I personally know the characters and the story itself is a great one. I've read it about 7 times by now and i still love it. I recommend it to anyone who likes a good story.

I am really looking forward to this book! :) I loved Almost Home, and Close To Famous! Hopefully this one is more astonishing as the last two I read :)

One of the most moving, poignant, funny, sad, hopeful, profound and inspiring stories I have read in a long time. I read this about the same time that The Secret Life of Bees came out and everyone was racing to read that. The story of this book has some similarities to the Secret Life of Bees but there are more differences making this story much better. I read this first then the "Bees" book second. While I enjoyed The Secret Life of Bees I really don't see what everyone was raving about and also see that "Hope Was Here" is much, much better. "Hope Was Here" covers the gamut of emotions and does so in a very well written story.

This, along with a handful of other books I have read, I believe is one of the best books ever written.
