I was very happy to have come across this series by Julian May. She is truly one of the best authors of all time. Would also recommend The Many-Colored Land series which is her best. I had a hard time getting into it at first, skipped the first third of the book and then couldn't put it down. Her books are very detailed. It's like wheat vs. white bread. You can goble down a slice of white and not give it much thought; a piece of artisan wheat makes you savory each bit, enjoying the texture, aroma, the experience.
