The Alexandria Ceremonial Police Orchestra arrives in Israel from Egypt for a cultural event. Once there, they find the expected delegation is not there to meet them. Arrangements to get to their destination of Petah Tiqva have not been taken care of either. They find their own ride and arrive instead at the remote town of Beit Hatikva. Stuck there until the next morning's bus, the band, lead by the repressed Tawfiq Zacharaya, gets help from the worldly lunch owner, Dina, who offers to put them up for the night. As the band settles in the best it can, each of the members attempts to get along with the natives in their own way. What follows is a special night of quiet happenings and confessions as the band makes its own impact on the town and the town on them.

A bit disappointed. The so called cultural touch is so superficial. It is not funny either. Don't understand why so many awards. Since it has a word "BAND' in the title, why not take the chance to introduce more beautiful musics from Israel and Egypt? The whole movie seems like an experimental work from some students.

Do you enjoy quirky foreign films that don't play out the same way the standard Hollywood films do? In the special features the writer/director explains he is more interested in what happens before or after the lines spoken than the dialogue itself. It is a film of nuances and feelings. And interesting, too - a joint Egyptian/Israeli production.

i agree with the comment made below about the lead actor sasson gabai, he's face says so much. he's fabulous. definently needed more musical interludes...i was disappointed with the way a potential romance between sasson and an israeli lady was handled. however a nice little film none the less and a good ending.

A slow ,small.everyday and intimate comedy.Sasson Gabai in the lead role says so much with his face.(A la Juan Villagas in Bombon, Agentina,EPL). Maybe not electric, but maybe a true slice of life, I enjoyed it on a quiet evening, especially the joyful end.
More musical interludes would really have helped
