VERY GOOD 1937 Hollywood vaudeville movie parody of East Coast rich folks lifestyles. Fine staging of song/dance numbers, good comedy with Ritz Brothers, and fun to look at Madeleine Carroll AND Alice Faye. Let's Go Slummin'!!!

A silly movie that made me laugh a lot. The Ritz Brothers -- mostly, Harry Ritz -- were hysterically funny, particularly when HR gets in drag as Alice Faye. Faye herself was no beauty, yet was a versatile performer, equally adept at parody (her scene with the squealing pigs is a stand-out) and at singing a tender ballad, a la "This Year's Kisses." Soundtrack has at least 2 other Irving Berlin gems: I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm and the haunting You're Laughing at Me. OTA is more earthbound than the Warners musicals from the 1930s -- it lacks their ephemeral quality, and there isn't much dancing either. Worth seeing just to look at the gorgeous blond Madeleine Carroll, who wears all sorts of fabulous gowns; she's smashing in all of them, plus she could really act, too.

this was a forgettable musical. the songs and music were not that catchy even though they were done by Irving Berlin. I would recommend "A star is born" for a look at the antics of behind the scenes Broadway.
The Ritz Brothers were 20th Century Fox's answer to the 3 stooges at Columbia pictures. they were annoying in this movie more than funny but they were talented.
