Had no idea where this movie was going until it got there. Impactual story. I liked it.

I love this movie, first of all, it is based on true story, and the victim (the fellow Chinese Ph.D student was my school mate, and we finished from the same high school the same year). I also love the music in the film as they reflect that unique period of time. I understand a movie is dramatized version of real event - it is not necessary 100% accurate. Meryl Streep is great actor and she performed well in this film.

The acting of Meryl Streep and Aiden Quinn cannot save this tragic tale.

The music in this film sung in chinese is enchanting. I would like a CD of this music and would like to know where I can buy it.

movie just blew my mind. just when i thought it was going one way it changed then it ended. all i have to say is WHY DID THAT HAVE TO HAPPEN? What was Meryl Streep going to say to him?????????????????????????????

Uninspired and biased interpretation of a PhD candidate from China who felt oppressed and hopeless, and ultimately murdered his advisors and a fellow student in cold blood.
This is a more truthful interpretation:

This was the real event without interpretation:

Fair - Dark Matter (2007) 88 min. This is a strange film that made the rounds in the film festival circuit before a very limited release in theatres starring none other than acting great Meryl Streep - in a supporting role [I’m at a loss why she accepted this role]. Though she does heightened quality to the low budget film, based on a true story, the film would’ve worked if the movie was shortened by 20 minutes and the film stuck to the plot. The film, about an A+ student from China and envied by his professor, becomes very clear of where it’s going only in the 3rd act. But by that time, you may not have had the stamina to have gotten that far. Not for all tastes.
