This book is #4 in the Inspector Van Veeteren series of ten books, the last three of which have not been translated into English as at early 2012 (as have none so far of the author’s subsequent Inspector Barbarotti series); this is a wonderful book; droll is the operative word; lots of laughs to the point that I sometimes had to stop and recover; clearly set in the Netherlands with a cast of police characters who fit together wonderfully, though the Netherlands/Belgium location is less important to this particular story than was the case in some of the earlier books in the series.
Excellent--the best of his mysteries that I have read so far. The plot followed the murderer, her prey, and the police investigation alternately. The motive was the big question for the reader.
