Outstanding documentary by Bill Moyers explores the cultural impact of the hymn first written by John Newton. The song resonates deeply with people even today, and numerous people, from well known singers to choirs to prisoners to ordinary families, speak about their own personal perspective on what it means to them. There are various renditions of the tune liberally spread through the program, and an exploration of Newton's life as well. Jeremy Irons, voicing the former slave ship captain turned minister in reading his words from over two hundred years ago, is a particular treat. Highly recommended.
