After reading about the mostly fanciful ways that humans could possibly perish in the excellent “And Then You're Dead: What Really Happens If You Get Swallowed by a Whale, Are Shot from a Cannon, or Go Barreling over Niagara” by Cody Cassidy and Paul Doherty, I felt the urge to contemplate the ways that people actually do die and so I turned to “This Will Kill You: A Guide to the Ways in Which We Go” by HP Newquist and Rich Maloof. Written in an inappropriately jaunty style, the book describes 100 causes of death in alphabetical order from “Alligators” (you don’t want to mess with one) to “Working in a Coal Mine” (you don’t want to do this either, no matter what Donald Trump might say). As I read, I found myself categorizing the chapter subjects according to their potential to cause grievous bodily harm, from Not As Bad As I Thought (“Arsenic” and “Black Widow Spider”), to Even Worse Than I Thought (“Rabies” and “Tetanus”—those vaccinations make sense), to Every Bit As Bad As I Thought (“Burning at the Stake” and “A Drink of Drain Cleaner”). Why so interesting and entertaining a book is not better known is beyond me, but the strange and baffling cover image couldn’t have helped its popularity.

I liked this book! :3 Its interesting to understand all these types of ways that could kill you-- and NO, I am not a sadist or a masochist LOL Its a cool book dammit! XDD

I enjoyed this book. I found the varying causes of death were well decribed without being sensational. This is fairly graphic and there are some really disgusting bits in it. I could've done without the cute graphics, though.
