It's an important story but I found the book wasn't really adding much to what I already knew from news coverage, documentaries, interviews etc. over the years.

I find this book a great gift. Throughout we find meditations on darkness, freedom, self-discipline and Truth shared through a remarkable story. More awareness of our oneness, be it momentary or constant, can only help the human race come to greater harmony. Carter's emergence from the crucible of wrongful imprisonment as a much wiser, more aware, loving and charitable person benefits our whole beleaguered world. As the hymn goes, ubi caritas et amor Deo ibi est. He also holds two doctorates!

troubling book and a difficult subject, the imprisonment of innocent people (mostly blacks in the US, although we have our share too), but Carter appears to have this messianic ego -- maybe that's what it takes to survive the life he has endured.
