As a beginning knitter, I love Erika Knight's books because so many of her patterns involve basic stitches but produce elegant results. The first half of the book is educational, with discussions of yarns, diagrams of techniques, and a visual stitch dictionary.

List of projects:

Fold-over pillow
Stripe pillow
Stripe throw
Pull-on hats
Rag bag
Round pillow
Two-needle socks
Four-needle socks
Cable scarf
Cable hot-water bottle cover

This book teaches you technique by working simple and attractive projects and adding "masterclass" instructions for some aspect of each project. The projects can be switched up by using fancier stitch variations from the stitch library section. Recommended for the novice knitter and for creative knitters who want to make their own variations with more challenging stitches.

I knitted the touque shown on the front cover and it turned out beautifully. Great patterns, would recommend this knitting book for any beginner/novice.
