Meh! I held out hope throughout most of this book for some excitement and some captivating events, but it didn't happen (for me).
It's a rather simple story. The characters aren't simple. They had some depth, and they endured a great deal of pain so early in their lives, but the storyline just didn't get off the ground to make it a book that I would recommend.

Great, great writing. Gruesome, it's true. Why on earth isn't this a book club favourite instead of "the Help"? It's a bit similar, historical, feminist...but so much better.

Fast-paced story with gruesome bits sure to appeal to teens.
