This book is a follow up to the award winning novel "Sacred Hunger". It deals with the legal and moral implications that result from the storyline of the first book. The writing is very good although quite formal in style and the story is interesting but a bit slow moving. This book stands alone but it will be more interesting and easier to follow if you have read Sacred Hunger first. I would highly recommend this book to those that have read Sacred Hunger as it is a really good follow through of the fate of those characters.

This novel follows some characters from "Sacred Hunger" and tells of the dawning of Erasmus' conscience and love of the liberal, abolistionist's sister. Both books are very good.
