I've been on a Ruth Rendell kick lately. I like the Inspector Wexford novels, but actually like the others better, as well as the one book of short stories that I've tried. But of all of them, this is the best! If you're a Patricia Highsmith fan, you'll love this. I couldn't put it down, while it was simultaneously excruciating. And an excellent (I thought) ending, which can be hard to pull off.
