Salmon Fishing in the Yemen is a well-meaning film that is cursed with a bad title. Part romance, part drama, part comedy, all heart, this film finds the good in all people. Scotsman Ewan McGregor stars as a cog in the British Government’s fish and wildlife department who gets stuck with the proj... Read More »

Film can have beauty to it! "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen" is just that sort of picture. A real light touch. None of the characters is over acting. This is played so well that you think you have seen a real part of life. Is the story real or not? Doesn't matter because we all hope it is true. The movie looks at faith. Not any particular religion, but as a concept. Do we have faith in our abilities? Do we have faith in making our goals? There is some important issues yet they are passing by us in a rather fun movie. Nothing heavy handed here. Just a surprisingly good romance movie with a wonderful cast!

A romantic comedy about the failure of expectations and the need for hope and faith. Sadly, and I guess this is life, but the male lead character decides to leave his wife when it looks as though the marriage is actually salvageable- they are just too busy at work to have intimacy. He is attracted to a younger pretty female he works with. They have little in common, other than work. She leaves a guy that she had great chemistry with due to the developing relationship with this older more boring man with whom she is not really well suited. But, the whole Sheik-thing was cool, although his dialogue was forced and a bit corny and stereo-typed at times. It was amusing and the lead characters were enjoyable to watch.

Outstanding. It's about politics, office politics and affairs of the heart. As wall as the wish of an sheikh to help his people.

This was a little too twee and almost, might I say, insufficiently acted at times like the test film was used? It's light comedy of the fluffy variety, with a bit of tragedy added to give it substance. Ewan seems to be trying out his comedy chops but for me was missing the spot. Some nice British and Yemeny views, of course.

Far too saccharine for salmon. The only tasty morsel is Kristin Scott Thomas. // Spoiler alert: An upstream, against the norm, plot would have the troubled man work things out with his wife. Sadly, this movie relies on the predictable trope of the married man falling for the younger, prettier woman at work. The book probably did this better.
