For mystery club readers, stories set in the southern U.S., with references to reading techniques and literacy programming. Good first book in the series, with lots of room for future development.
A nice read!
I always perk up when I see that a cozy mystery is about books. In this case, the main character is a reading specialist who is also starting a mystery book club. I enjoyed reading about Lizzie's job working with children and teens and the ways she found to encourage them to read. The quotations from different mystery stories, contemporary and traditional, were fun to see as headings for each new chapter. Lizzie's character is mature and believable as she tries to put together the many strands of the mystery with the help of her book club. I did find the story to be a little slow at times. The conclusion, for me, seemed a bit rushed and somewhat unsatisfying. Overall, though, I would say this is a good cozy mystery for a rainy NW summer day!
