This is a romance for people who don't read normally read romance. Contrary to the title, this isn't really a "bodice-ripper" and instead it's about two characters that are forced into an unfortunate and complicated situation, and how they make the best out of it. A really lovely book that will pull at your heart strings.
Ravishing the Heiress (an apt title) is an example of a fine story teller taking a complicated situation headed for ugliness and turning it into a heartfelt, passionate story with the finest balance and precision. At multiple times of the book, I nodded my head in appreciation at the way Thomas diverted from imminent doom and continued to make the story pleasing and entertaining to read.
Another great romance from Thomas -- though, honestly, a painful and heartbreaking read, as our main characters spend most of the book foolishly apart. There are several scenes where Millie is just devastated, and we the reader right along with her; then again, Fitz and Millie have a wonderful friendship and partnership that is a pleasure to see. I would have liked more at the end of the book about the two of them (if there was ever a book that could use an epilogue, this is one) to help balance out the lead up to the ending; still, a great cast of characters and wonderful writing.
I loved this book and read it in one night. My heart heart strings were really tugged on by Millicent. The unrequited love does not harden her soul. I ended up in awe of her selflessness. Excellent read.
This is a really nice book.
