Joe: "...Then I saw it. I saw a mom who would die for her son... A man who would kill for his wife... A boy, angry and alone. Laid out in front of him, the bad path. I saw it. And the path was a circle. Round and round. So I changed it."

I do not know what compelled me to order this movie ..... not my cup of tea and did not bother watching something I can't get into since it is impossible for us to go back in time.
More sophisticated take and deeper twist out of a banal time travel scheme.
I'm not going to say anything about the story or plot of this movie the other comments give it a good review.
The strange thing I saw in this movie was the invisible cigarette. The character played by Emily Blunt is sitting on her pourch smoking an invisible cigarette; why is she doing this? Later we see her smoking a real cigarette. It glows when she takes a drag but the ash fails to get bigger and the cigarette fails to get smaller there is hardly any smoke let alone the ususal plume. I believe this must have been a computer animated cigarette. A computer animated cigarette was supposed to have been inserted in the first scene where Emily is smoking the invisible cigarette; but somebody in production dropped the ball.
What a BLOPPER! Shame on you Emily Blunt for setting this bad example to our youth when you yourself would never actually smoke a cigarette.
Excellent thriller!
Good cast. Good B movie thriller. Fortunately Bruce Willis came in half way through with guns and grit to bring this film to an end. I’m not a fan of Paul Dano and fortunately he was gone ½ way through. Glad to see the film end on a doable solution.
I watched this about 4 years ago? I just re-watched it 3/2019. Dialog and character development are weak. Movie is a mix of common formulas - drug use, un-remorseful killing, some action and PG violence, the main character struggles to find meaning to his life but redeems it at the end. To some degree I enjoyed the Rainmaker retiring the loopers by 'closing their loops' -- loopholes ;-)
Another reviewer summed it up nicely: "Looper could have been good if the author had not tried to blend too many genres. Crime, horror, time travel , para normal & psycho drama were too much in Looper. The constant going back in time was dizzying."
There appears to be a contradiction between Bruce willis berating his younger self played by Gordon Levit as being selfish but Bruce is very selfish at the end in his attempt to neutralize the Rainmaker and doesn't care about collateral damage.

Looper could have been good if the author had not tried to blend too many genres. Crime, horror, time travel , para normal & psycho drama were too much in Looper. The constant going back in time was dizzying. The paranormal scenes locked credibility & weren't supposed to be funny. However, I found myself laughing were none was intended. The acting wasn't credible. There was a lot of unnecessary violence. I give this movie half a star for being there.
This movie was the first time I heard Emily Blunt talk with an American accent. It was pure genius. I have seen this movie it is a very good sci-fi movie to watch.
Witten and directed by Rian Johnson, this 2012 SF thriller tells the story of a looper called "Joe" who is supposed to kill his future self.
It is an unbelievably contrived story.
I don't believe in psychokinesis or telekinesis at all.
So, when I see the telekinetic power of a kid, the whole story turns out to me a total rabbish.
I feel I've just wasted my time when I see the end.
However, the performance of that kid is superb.
