1943's "The Human Comedy" is a highly sentimental comedy/drama that looks at the effects that WW2 had on those who were back at the home-front.

Set in the fictitious small-town of Ithaca, California - "The Human Comedy" stars Mickey Rooney. Here Rooney earnestly plays the character, Homer Macauley, a 17-year-old high school student whose part-time job as a telegram delivery boy offers him a wide interaction with many of the townsfolk.

This MGM flag-waver won an Academy Award for "Best Story".

*Trivia note* - In one brief scene a young Robert Mitchum appears in a small role as a soldier on a night off from military training.

This is a good movie. It is definitely a product of the 40s. I enjoyed it. It makes a nice change from the movies of today.
