Alex is an author whose writer's block and gambling debts have landed him in trouble. In order to get the loan sharks off his back, he must finish his novel in 30 days or end up dead. To help him complete his manuscript, he hires stenographer, Emma. As Alex begins to dictate his tale of a romantic love triangle, Emma challenges his ideas at every turn. Her unsolicited, yet intriguing input, begins to inadvertently influence Alex and his story and soon real life begins to imitate art.

This is a cute movie and Hudson is hilarious. I am not a big fun of Wilson, but he is perfect in the skin of a desperate writer. There is a turn in the story toward the end, which you might have already suspected, but it does not detract from the end. Although I despise Reiner for his political activism, his movie is very enjoyable--and if like me you write, you will love Wilson's writing process and Hudson's intrusions!

Fair - Alex & Emma (2003) 86 min. Rob Reiner directed this little romantic comedy about a writer who must complete a manuscript in 30 days, receive the proceeds and pay back his lone sharks or suffer the extreme consequences. The charm in this film is the dialogue between Kate Hudson and Luke Wilson; I could’ve done without the imaginary tale being shown as Wilson dictates the story to Hudson. As a romantic comedy, it has all the elements needed to make you go “ahhh” but the humour is not up to a Rob Reiner directed picture.
