I'm not so kind in my comments as other reviews. Frequently I had dread watching these lives unfold, such a waste of life to spend it drinking & cheating on family. Here is a mother-in-law from hell who cannot keep her vicious comments in check, a total control person. Characters that talk about 'family' yet do everything possible to destroy it. Here's a mother who drinks like an alcoholic while breastfeeding a child, while her friends/family condone it.

If anything, it's a lesson in how drinking destroys lives. The only redeeming individual is the friend who gave up the destructive lifestyle, possibly the only adult in the entire series. It is compelling & horrific to watch. This is a forecast & true portrayal of such lifestyle.

A series of dramatic vignettes featuring outstanding performances from a talented Australian cast which detail the poignant personal quotidienne lives of family and friends who through better or worse are interconnected to each other. Well done!

This is the original Australian series in 8 parts, the first one "Hector" sets the situation and takes the widest view with the cast in general, the next seven each have primary focus on one of the guests/participants at Hector's party, and their interactions with others. This is a social situation series. The wikipedia article about "The Slap" has additional information. I think it is fair to conclude that "The Slap" is unsuitable for children because of (partial) nudity, language, and sex scenes and situations.

This is a brilliant series, based on an Australian novel about an extended Greek-Australian family whose lives are turned upside down after a child is slapped by an adult at a party. All of their connected stories are interesting, as are the ways they connect. Jonathan LaPaglia (brother of Anthony) is excellent as is Essie Davis, otherwise known as "Miss Fisher"
