Lulu is "famous for loving animals"--all the way down to spiders. So when her 3rd grade class witnesses, on a field trip, two large dogs ruin a nest of duck eggs and Lulu finds that one egg has survived, what can she do but tuck it inside her sweater and hope it doesn't hatch before the end of the school day? A short, Ramona-like book about having a well-intentioned secret, with a happy ending.

"Lulu really, really loves animals, but her teacher says that if she brings any more critters to school, the class pet will be banished from Room Three. But when Lulu's class goes on an outing to a park and Lulu finds a duck egg, she sneaks the egg back to the classroom with her anyway. It isn't exactly an animal yet, right? If you love animals, too, and you want a sweet, realistic story that is easy to read, like Sara Pennypacker's Clementine, Friend of the Week, then Lulu and the Duck in the Park is just right for you."
