I've been binge-reading Julie James. It started with Love Irresistibly, and I was very much looking forward to reading about Brooke Parker's pal Ford Dixon in Suddenly One Summer.

Sadly, he wasn't nearly as interesting in this book. The plot and characters who had been so dynamic in Love Irresistibly were flat.

I got the clear sense that her heart wasn't in the book ~ she had ground it out to meet a publisher's deadline. I noticed in the comments about the author on the back cover that she now has two kids. Maybe she was too exhausted to give this book the sizzle of her other books.

And, I probably would have loved the book if it had been my first experience with Julie James. Her other books that I have read are better.
