In the fourth novel in Anne Bishop's New York Times bestselling series, the Others will need to decide how much humanity they're willing to tolerate—both within themselves and their community... Since the Others allied themselves with the cassandra sangue, the fragile yet powerful human blood prophets who were being exploited by their own kind, the dynamic between humans and Others has changed. Some, such as Simon Wolfgard, wolf shifter and leader of the Lakeside Courtyard, and blood prophet Meg Corbyn see the closer companionship as beneficial. But not everyone is convinced. A group of radical humans is seeking to usurp land through a series of violent attacks on the Others. What they don't realize is that there are older and more dangerous forces than shifters and vampires protecting the land—and those forces are willing to do whatever is necessary to safeguard what is theirs...

A very tense and powerful entry to the series. Also, far more timely and relevant than I'd like to think!

An excellent conclusion to the complex, very cool series of The Others. Towards the end I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to listen to it when the audio version is available.

In this 4th installment of the Courtyards of the Others series, shapeshifter Simon Wolfgard, leader of the Lakeside Courtyard, works with blood prophet Meg to protect the terra indigene (or Others) from Humans First and Last, the extremist group whose goal is the extermination of all non-human races. Can Simon and Meg shield their community from HFL's increasingly violent attacks? And will the conflict attract the notice of the Elders, ancient beings far more powerful -- and much more threatening -- than the Others? Given this series' complex backstory and detailed worldbuilding, newcomers are advised to start at the beginning with Written in Red.

If you enjoyed the previous novels in this series, there's no reason that you shouldn't enjoy this one.

Marked in Flesh is the 4th novel in Bishop’s engaging, “Others” series. The world Bishop created is controlled by powerful others who permit humans to exist in some cities and parts of their world as long as humans continue to pay rent and provide useful services. Naturally humans resent the demands of the others and some agitate for revolt, not realizing that the others they see are just a buffer between humans and the truly powerful others. Radical humans plot to attack the others and grab land while the others determine how to respond had who should survive. The writing is strong with well-developed characters and it avoids becoming a typical “shapeshifter” romance.
