Natalie C. Anderson's debut novel is a fast-paced YA thriller inspired by real stories of refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo. City of Saints and Thieves centers on Tina, who immigrated to Kenya with her mother as a child. A few years after her mother is mysteriously murdered, Tina, now sixteen, is working as a thief in a local gang. She vows to get revenge upon her mother's murderer, but her plan derails after a surprise encounter with a long-lost friend. Now questioning her murderous mission, Tina realizes that she hardly knew her mother at all. The adventure she embarks upon to answer burning questions will leave you on the edge of your seat.

The audio version of this book is great. The voice actress does a wonderful job and the director figured out perfect pacing. Complemented by pitch perfect vocalization, the writer's descriptive action scenes involving the initial theft made for amazing suspense.

Blind Date with a Book 2018 comment: "Loved the book and got drawn into the story after just a few pages. Just HAD to know how it ended. Would go on another 'date' for sure :)"

This is probably my favorite read of 2017 so far! An amazing thriller set in Kenya that doesn't shy away from the harsh realities of war-torn African nations. Think Ocean's Eleven meets Blood Diamond meets Girl with a Dragon Tattoo!
