These witty stories were originally told by Rudyard Kipling to his own children. In them he gives fanciful accounts of how and why things came to be as they are. Generations of children have delighted to learn how the Leopard got his spots, how the Elephant's Child on the banks of the great grey-green Limpopo acquired his trunk with the help of the Crocodile, and the beginning of the Armadillos.

This is such a cute little edition with a ribbon bookmark and original illustrations. A book that you will want to read out loud to your kids. There are many words they won't understand, but they will love the lilting and rhyming sounds of his writing method! (I put my son's favorite quote in the quotes area on this web page. You will see what I mean.)

A copy of this book was given to
my family (I believe) by a freindly
neighbor family, but unfortunaltely
my mother had an attitude about
them and, though I tried to keep
them, eventually they were lost.
I was so happy to find this copy
of stories I had read while growing
up, and I sincerely thank that family, the Painters, though they
may not even remember these
books at this late date. I will enjoy rereading the stories, I am sure. --r
