Best-selling author Alice Hoffman's works have been named notable books of the year by several publications. Inspired by the siege of Masada, in which 900 Jews took refuge from Roman armies, The Dovekeepers follows four determined women as they pursue their fates. Each with a unique background, the women—all dovekeepers— meet during the siege and discover they have much in common. "Beautiful, harrowing, a major contribution to twenty-first century literature."—Toni Morrison, Nobel Laureate in Literature

This is probably one of the longest audiobooks I've ever listened to, but it was so GOOD! Hoffman fleshes her characters out beautifully, and you feel as though these people were/are real. Hoffman uses language in a way that I haven't seen a good author use in a while, and she paints the scenes of the desert and the sights and smells and sounds of Masada as if she had been there. She instantly became one of my favorite authors after The Museum of Extraordinary Things.
