Lucia zips through the playground in her cape just like the boys, but when they tell her 'girls can't be superheroes', suddenly she doesn't feel so mighty. That's when her beloved abuela reveals a dazzling secret: Lucia comes from a family of luchadoras, the bold and valiant women of the Mexican lucha libre tradition. But when she's confronted with a case of injustice, Lucia must decide if she can stay true to the ways of the luchadora and fight for what is right, even if it means breaking the sacred rule of never revealing the identity behind her mask.

Lucia has lots of feelings when the boys say she can't be a superhero because she's a girl. But she's the best! Her abuela helps her by showing Lucia her old luchadora costume and how luchadoras always fight for what's right. A special story of finding your strength.

This book showcases the importance of representation. Two boys won't let Lucía play with them, claiming girls can't be superheroes. Lucía goes home angry about this. Lucía's abuela tells her about being a luchadora when she was young. Lucía decides to give it a try with a silver mask and cape. The other kids at the playground love the caped superhero and others start wearing their own superhero costumes, including some girls. Once again, boys on the playground tell these girls they can't participate. When Lucía is wearing a mask and the boys can't tell who she is, they let her join in. Lucía makes a choice to show herself without a mask to prove that anyone can be a superhero!
