It’s really hard to believe that in the 21st century a U.S. Special Operations Marine Scouts Sniper team could be so ill trained and ill prepared. A two man team gets dropped off in the middle of the desert, to carry out a sniper assassination of a high-value target who is heavily guarded. Mike (the sniper) refuses an order over the radio to take the shot, then gives away the team’s position by carelessly letting the sun reflect off the rifle scope. They barely escape with their lives, only to find their one and only gps locator was broken during the escape. Oh and they only have enough water for one day, there’s no chance for helicopter evacuation because of sandstorms, and evacuation with ground vehicles isn’t possible because ground vehicles were never a part of the original mission.(?) While talking on the radio to Head Quarters, HQ somehow is able tell them how to get to the nearest village. On their way to the village, Mike thinks they may have wondered into a minefield. Tommy (the spotter) doesn’t believe it’s a minefield, so Tommy starts running running backward, and gets his legs blown off by (you guessed it) a mine. At the same time Mike is certain he has stepped onto a mine, so he can’t move. Tommy ends up committing suicide with his sidearm. This all happens in the first 25 minutes. The remainder of the film is about Tommy standing on what he thinks is a mine, only to find out in the end it’s just a tin can with a toy soldier in it.
