A landslide destroys a Shetland house which is thought to be abandoned. A woman's body is found in the debris. and her death was not accidental. Jimmy Perez, local law enforcement, investigates. Well written mystery.

A little too many characters and plot twists for my old mind to keep track of. I am still going to read another one of the books to see how it goes.

As is evident, Cleeves has bifurcated the Shetland series: the initial 'color' Fran phase, to wit, Raven Black, White Nights, Red Bones, Blue Lightning; the subsequent 'classical element' post-Fran phase, namely, Dead Water, Thin Air, and just published, Cold Earth. One need not be a scholar of ancient Greek philosophy to hazard a guess as to the key term in the next Shetland series novel's title. By the way, the latest offering is an average, but quite readable, whodunit.

A landslide on Shetland Island buries a house and a dead body is pulled from the rubble but the landslide didn't kill her and so begins the latest Ann Cleeves mystery...good read!!!!!!

I’ve not read the first 6 Shetland Mysteries. More background into the characters would have been helpful, but it also makes me want to read the others in the series. Character development is excellent and the mystery was intriguing. If nothing else was accomplished while reading this mystery, I noew want to visit the Shetland Islands

This latest Jimmy Perez mystery should make Northerners from any continent feel right at home with the dismal early spring rain, mud and general discomfort. Then there's the discomfort of most of the characters with their life situation and each other. The amount of time spent with Jimmy, Willow Reeves and other characters giving us their perspective on their relationships and emotional status together with the dismal weather detracts from the solution of the murders. The number of suspects made it a good puzzle, but some of their situations were left hanging at the end, which was unsatisfying. I like Jimmy Perez and Willow Reeves, and will continue to follow them, but hopefully the next book will not be set in the spring rain and muck and more time will be spent on clues and other pertinent details.

Really loved most of this book but ending was very disappointing.

Very good indeed. Ann Cleeves knows her Islanders. This one is a landslide, literally. Nothing is as it seems but it's all quite simple really once everything is factored in. It will make an excellent addition to the TV series.
