Surprisingly good! Great storyline, some really good acting, and even much of the original music is good. We recommend, even if you dislike rap! You might find it helpful to watch with subtitles so you can catch all the lyrics, which are usually poetic. Be sure to watch the extras to further appreciate the acting level, etc.

Quite a pleasant surprise! A crowd-pleaser. This type of story (the Cinderella type of movie) has been told innumerable times before. We have seen so many similar stories, some of them even in the context of rap music, yet Patti Cake$ manages to stay fresh, and connect with the audience (at least with some of us) in a very personal way.

This relatively low-budget movie is also unexpectedly polished, considering that the director (Geremy Jasper, who is also the writer), is a newbie. This is his first feature film. Not to mention a cast of almost unknown actors. Danielle MacDonald is absolutely sensational.

I'm not saying that the movie is perfect; to mention the negatives, the plot is quite predictable (obviously!), and some issues are never resolved, or fully explored, like race. I think it was very intriguing to have a white female character (Patti Cake$) and a south Asian sidekick (Siddharth Dhananjay as Jheri) trying to succeed in a music form dominated by black males, who do not accept them or respect them based on looks alone.

Go see it.

I'm going to try and see this one of these days, even though I HATE rap (I like music, myself) it seems interesting. You can't beat the prices here, unless you over keep something, of course.

Well done film. The “underdog against all odds” story can be tiring at times but this film tells a good story with a very catchy soundtrack. Interesting that the film reflects the journals and diaries of Geremy Jasper, as Danielle Macdonald steals the show. I’ve always respected New Jersey’s grit.

We started the movie and turned it off. What a pathetic piece of work. To me both her and her mom were trailer trash and not worth my time watching.

A familiar yet endearing story of a troubled, young musician dreaming of something bigger than the New Jersey suburbs that both weigh her down and help form her identity. Without better care, Patti Cake$ might feel played out, but strong performances from Danielle MacDonald in the titular role, Bridget Everett as her trainwreck mom, and the supporting cast that round out Patti’s rap ensemble, give the movie the heart to keep audiences engaged in this underdog story.

This is sort of like a heartwarming, sweeter 8 Mile. Danielle Macdonald is incredible and I can't wait to see her in future movies.

"Patti Cake$" is a special movie. For fans of hip hop, or anyone wanting a fun, inspirational story, it is well-worth your time. Cut from the same cloth as "8 Mile," Patti Cake$ tells a familiar underdog story from a fresh, new perspective. With a solid lead performance by Danielle MacDonald and an entertaining soundtrack, "Patti Cake$" is a real treat.
