This clever read which is great for beginners, introduces readers into the world of a little girl and her faith. Red rugs for prayer, golden domes on the mosque and orange for creative leafy vines made with henna, are what this young girl sees within her faith. Gifts, dates and black ink for writing are part of what is shared in this faith. Young readers will find beautifully illustrated pages that share various colors and even learn a few new words. The back pages share the definitions for a better understanding. Parents and teachers can discuss religion in other cultures.

This lyrical rhyming book celebrates Islamic traditions through the eyes of a young girl. Even the youngest readers will delight in discovering Muslim culture through this visually appealing read-aloud.

Each page of Golden Domes and Silver Lanterns is a different color and is meant to explain aspects of a young girl's religion, Islam. Red prayer rugs, golden mosques, orange henna designs, etc. This book and the glossary at its end explain Islam simply, positively, and beautifully and is very engaging even for younger readers.

Each colour is used to show a different aspect of the Muslim people. It focuses on the beauty of their art and culture rather than on specific teachings from their faith. A glossary is included in the back to further elucidate on the terms used.

One of my favourite reads at OPL so far, Golden Domes and Silver Lanterns is a beautifully written and illustrated book about the customs, traditions, celebrations, and colours of Islam. Can't recommend it enough - I loved it.
