Enjoyable for its funny moments of a bickering, not quite functional English family trying to re-establish itself on the rustic Greek island of Corfu in pre WWII days. Despite culture clashes, the local community quietly adopts the widowed head of the family as she, her four children, and their menagerie of animals cast about for a way to make a living, outwit the landlord, manage romances, and thrive.

Even more delightful than the first season. The nature aspect of life on a Greek island really shines through as Gerry becomes more and more the young naturalist. Kids might enjoy The Durrells as well. Can't wait for the 3rd series to come in.

The only thing I liked about this was the scenery in Greece. And perhaps the young boy.
The rest of the cast was unlikable for me. Especially didn't like the two older boys. Can't imagine wanting to spend any time with people like this.
Watched the first disc, season one - up to where the red/blond haired boy was chopping up a murdered rabbit. Sick.
Didn't waste my time watching the second season.
Sure don't know what the big fuss is all about with this series.
Very unusual for me to dislike an English program.

Taken from the books written by Durrell. This series is first and foremost location porn. Dreamy afternoons, sparkling mornings and a glowing translucent aquamarine of the Ionian Sea. The family is always getting into trouble or out of trouble and the Mother is ever resourceful on her widowers pension. A wonderful romp into an idyllic past of Corfu, with humor and British wit. Refreshing entertainment. Wonderful ensemble acting
