It was funny, like real funny! - Colten, age 10

It was funny and very similar to the Series of Unfortunate Events. I also thought it was mean how his parents left. - Lizzy, age 12 and Rebekah, age 11

I love this book. If you like magic, mystery, and suspense this is the book for you. I wish I could give spoilers but you MUST read it for yourself, it was really good. I give this book 5 stars, and will read the sequel. 😊

Leila has 2 fathers. This was lightly touched on in this first book and was made much more clear throughout the second book. It would have been nice to know this before my child started reading it. I believe the topic is something that a family should discuss on their own time, rather than be forced into it.

The storyline and the adventure are fun and engaging. It is well written and leaves you wanting more.

I chose a children's book as my first book of 2019.

I like to be aware of the books my grandchildren are reading and I also needed a break from anything too political, controversial, or angst-creating. The Magic Misfits was perfect for what I needed.

The book was a fast read that included some difficult circumstances which resolved by the end of the story. There is compassion for the underprivileged, disabled, and outsiders. Within the story and in explanatory and inserted segments of the book there are magic tricks, explanations of how magicians accomplish some of their illusions, and some insights into carnival games.

This book is part of a series.

A fast-paced book that is full of adventure, mischief and of course magic (but not to be confused with wizardry, sorcery, Harry Potter type of magic)! Not only do the characters perform various magic tricks and illusions, but the readers also get to learn how to do some of them! What I most love about this book, though, is the diversity and inclusiveness Neil Patrick Harris presents with the characters. For instance, this book features a same-sex couple and I am thrilled that Harris simply pointed it out and didn’t make a big deal out of it. He didn’t make them seem abnormal or different from the other couples and families in the story. Overall, a fantastic, entertaining read, and I’m excited to read the next book in the series!

Terrific start to a new series - I look forward to reading the rest of them. Loved the diverse cast of characters and the magic tips throughout.

I love Neil Patrick Harris and was excited when I heard that he was writing a kids book. The Magic Misfits is a cute story that doesn't take long to finish and in fact is something that I think reluctant readers who enjoy reading. I love how the group of kids in the book come together and support each other. I also liked the humor of the book and the magic tricks that are spaced throughout that kids could learn to perform in real-life.
