Opinion

From Library Staff

This movie starts slowly but takes off once you get into it. The chemistry between Timothy Spall and Imelda Staunton is contagious.

This movie is NOT a comedy. Front cover states @Romantic Comedy.”
Depressing, one charector has dementia & lives in a home, another going through a horrific divorce with a cheating spouse. Story line & acting are fine/good yet when you are all set for a comedy and you end up feeling depressed about life and these charector just leaves you with a ugh in your gut. Gets better an hour later into film, light at the end of the tunnel and all.
There is dancing in film.

Didn't know it was British. Interesting story of two sisters. Charlie was quite an interesting guy. Was hard to understand lots of the British lingo. Some interesting USA music.

A wonderful movie that will make you laugh and cry.  Predictable ending but how they get there is fun and enjoyable. It's nice to watch a mature romantic comedy without nudity and bedroom scenes.  Perfect normal characters that aren't excessively thin and wearing glove fitting clothing.  The music and dancing are fun, too.  I loved this movie.

Enjoyable to watch two of the U.K.'s best actresses (Imelda Staunton and Celia Imrie) play their roles as very different sisters. Also good to see older romantic relationships (actors are in their sixties). Whether or not Imelda can land on her feet after a public discovery of her husband's unfaithfulness is not really the issue, since she maintains her core values while being softened up a little by her hippie, free-love sister. The real question is does she make the right choice. Removing a star because there's an intoxicated-by-marijuana driving scene that's presented as hilarious rather than dangerous.

All of the previous reviews are pretty much spot on. What made this better for us was how easy it was to hear and understand what was being said. So often in these British films the dialect is hard to understand but this one was a stand out for the sound engineering.

Light entertainment but for some it may be irritating. The storyline is like a template.

A nice little predictable escape from a boring afternoon, or a rainy day, this romantic comedy is likeable. You know for the most part how it will play out, but it had some moments that made me laugh and cry.

Not unlike many romcom about a woman's new life after discovered the loving husband has been a cheater, except all the important characters are senior citizens with baggage from their long lives... Best wishes to Lady Abbott in getting back on her feet and to see the world.

A great cast of well known British actors, but the rom-com is very predictable. It's a good movie to watch when you want something light and fluffy.

From IMDb:

Bif: How did your Internet date go at the weekend?

Jackie: Well, let's just say I got more than I bargained for.

Bif: Ooh, lucky you.

Jackie: No, he showed up with his wife in tow. Turns out I'd clicked swinging instead of swimming on my list of likes.
