Somehow Clancy's Cold War submarine-hunting thriller does not become stale, but remains a hot page-turner full of action, political twists, and technical thrills.

This book is action packed from the beginning! The book is well written with a good mix of technical jargon and explanations. I found myself looking up some terms, but wasn't bothered by it. I enjoyed the character Ronald "Jonesy" Jones. As well as the chapter with a cocky Russian Fighter pilot being put in his place, but I don't want to give anything away.

Each Clancy book can stand alone, but I have found reading them in an order allows you to keep track of characters much better. Here is the most suggest list to follow. Note this does not follow publication date rather chronological order in the Ryanverse and includes books approved by Clancy, but not written by him:
Without Remorse
Patriot Games
Red Rabbit
The Hunt for Red October
The Cardinal of the Kremlin
Clear and Present Danger
The Sum of All Fears
Debt of Honor
Executive Orders
Rainbow Six
The Bear and the Dragon
The Teeth of the Tiger - Last book written solely by Clancy
Dead or Alive - Written with Co-Author
Locked On - Written with Co-Author
Threat Vector - Written with Co-Author
Command Authority - Written with Co-Author
Support and Defend - First book not written by Clancy
Full Force and Effect
Under Fire
Commander-in-Chief
Duty and Honor
True Faith and Allegiance
Point of Contact
Power and Empire
Line of Sight
Oath of Office
Enemy Contact

Everyone knows this story... Awfully technical (for a guy with no military background) but a good story that often times was intense. My 1st Clancy book. I'll definitely give RSR a shot next

This was much too slow and had to many characters involved. It did eventually kick into high gear.

Still the gold standard in technothrillers.

I LOVE THIS BOOK SOO MUCH!!!!! I love how Clancy brings all these ships, & people, & airplanes, & helicopters, & countries together into a complicated shuffle, and moves them around with the slow, careful maneuvering of a master chessman. It's almost like you're Agent Smith, taking on the bodies, minds, and lives of these people for only a couple paragraphs, but getting to know them even in these short segments. MUST...READ...MORE!!!!!!

Very well written and interesting, however Clancy lacks the nerve tingling suspense that I like. There was hardly any action at all. But, its very true and the info is perfect. Fairly good experience for my first Clancy book.

Thought somewhat dated by technological advances, this novel will still thrill. Clancy gives a great unpredictable ride with the reader always on the edge.
