When a renowned architecture scholar falls suddenly ill during a speaking tour, his son Jin finds himself stranded in Columbus, Indian; a small Midwestern city celebrated for its many modernist buildings. Jin strikes up a friendship with Casey, an architecture enthusiast who works at the local library. As their intimacy develops, they explore both the town and their conflicted emotions: Jin's stranged relationship with his father, and Casey's reluctance to leave Columbus and her mother.
"Kogonada in his impressive feature debut applies the principles of these architects to the compositions and structure of the film, a formal tour-de-force that eclipses its modest, though affecting and impeccably acted, narrative."--Boston Globe
"The feature directing debut of Kogonada, the South Korean video essayist and critic, is a poetic spellbinder about two strangers bonding over modern architecture."--Rolling Stone
"Something not merely impressive, but in every respect a surprise."--Village Voice
