Another wonderful dog that will melt your heart--and the story isn't bad either. The sequel to a Dog's Purpose, the story of Bailey and his promises and stories, enrich our lives and give us the joy we need, especially on gray winter days.

4/5

‘A Dog’s Journey’ directed by Gail Mancuso is the sequel to the film ‘A Dog’s Purpose’ released in 2017. The story starts with Bailey, who lives with his owners Ethan and Hannah. Right off the bat we can see that Bailey has a soft spot for their grand-daughter, CJ who lived with them as well. CJ’s mom, Gloria, starts to feel that Ethan and Hannah are questioning her parenting, which leads to her moving out, taking CJ with her. Soon after, Bailey is put down due to cancer and Ethan asks Bailey to always find and protect CJ. Bailey is reincarnated, nine years later and has become a female beagle named Molly, with a brother named Rocky. One day Rocky was adopted by a boy named Trent, who happened to be best friends with CJ, now 11 years old. Of course, Molly recognizes her and CJ eventually takes Molly home, without telling Gloria. We see that Gloria hasn’t changed her ways of parenting, but in the end, allows CJ to keep Molly.

Now that CJ is older, she wants to drop out of high school and move to New York with her dad’s insurance money to pursue music. CJ experiences a lot of obstacles in her life at this age with relationships, family, and her self-confidence. She relied a lot on Trent and Molly to get her through them and make her feel better. The movie follows Bailey through his many journeys to do whatever it takes to make CJ happy.

I think that this is a great movie for the whole family. It does an amazing job at showing the close relationships that dogs can have with their owners, despite their differences. I gave this movie a 4/5 because it is very emotional, funny, and sweet. It takes us through the life of CJ and the lives of Bailey, showing the differences between each. It is great to watch on it’s own or after the first movie. If you prefer books, this movie, as well as the first, are based on the books with the same titles, written by W. Bruce Cameron. This is the perfect series for all dog lovers!

Lovely family movie. Bit of a tear jerker but really good.

For me, this movie was quite a tearjerker but very heartwarming. The adventure of the dog was full of surprise and twists but it all inevitably ended in the best-case scenario. It is a great family movie or just something to enjoy with your friends. Watching this is theatres was a great choice as I got to experience a rollercoaster of emotions with the other viewers. We all laughed at the same parts and cried at the same parts. I love the way the plot wraps itself up and comes full circle. You do not need to watch A Dogs Purpose to understand A Dogs Journey, but it can enhance your experience. Overall, it was a very enjoyable movie with little to no flaws. @Rosa of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

What a beautiful continuation of A Dog's Purpose. It was a heart warming and sweet movie. I found that I felt unbearably sad in some moments, but really happy in some. The whole movie just makes you smile and Josh Gad's dialogues as Bailey (and all his other names) make you laugh at how honest and silly they are.

A great sequel to "A Dog's Purpose," again starring Josh Gad as the voice of Bailey, and Dennis Quaid as Bailey's original owner, Ethan. It's arguably even better than the first, with a different story. In this film, Bailey sees his purpose as protecting CJ, the granddaughter of Ethan, who has an alcoholic and narcissistic mother. Every incarnation of Bailey (Molly, Big Dog, and Max) tries to find CJ and help her. The ending is absolutely beautiful, and one that should help a child, especially, with the loss of a pet. I went through 6 Kleenexes watching this wonderful film. It is only for dog lovers or those who would consider adopting one of these amazing creatures, or at least learn what a dog's love can mean to us humans.
