"When Type-A Manhattan lawyer Dannie Cohan is asked this question at the most important interview of her career, she has a meticulously crafted answer at the ready. Later, after nailing her interview and accepting her boyfriend's marriage proposal, Dannie goes to sleep knowing she is right on track to achieve her five-year plan. But when she wakes up, she's suddenly in a different apartment, with a different ring on her finger, and beside a very different man. The television news is on in the background, and she can just make out the scrolling date. It's the same night--December 15--but 2025, five years in the future. After a very intense, shocking hour, Dannie wakes again, at the brink of midnight, back in 2020. She can't shake what has happened. It certainly felt much more than merely a dream, but she isn't the kind of person who believes in visions. That nonsense is only charming coming from free-spirited types, like her lifelong best friend, Bella. Determined to ignore the odd experience, she files it away in the back of her mind. That is, until four-and-a-half years later, when by chance Dannie meets the very same man from her long-ago vision."--Amazon.

Am I the only one who disliked this book? 2/5 stars. The backstory drew me in and it sounds intriguing indeed. But reading it you will find the main character is clueless and everyone around her either gives her tough love or placates her. She is selfish and only thinks about herself at the expense of those around her. I wanted to love this book. 250 pages will read in a day and move on to something better. I just didn’t understand Dannie and expected better from her. The MVP is Bella in the whole book.

This fast paced novel was an emotional roller coaster. I was sad to see the story end, but hopeful for Dannie's future.

Dannie & David are compatible. So compatible they have finally gotten engaged after 2 1/2 years together, but not in a rush to get married since they are still on their career fast-tracks.

Dannie gets a glimpse of her future, 5 years to the day of her engagement to David, and it's not David she's with. She can't bring herself to even tell her BFF Bella about it.

Four and a half years later, she and David are still together, not planning the wedding, when Dannie meets the man from her dream.

A book I will long remember.

I volunteered to read an ARC from Atria Books (Random House) through Net Galley.

This book was my addiction today. I was hiding in the bathroom and sneaking off to the corners of my house to sneak a chapter in. I inhaled it! The friendship between Dannie and Bella grounds the book and I will not say much more about the plot. Don't want to spoil it for anyone else. Don't read this without your tissues! If you loved "The Dinner List," I am confident this will also be a satisfying read. Read alikes for this title include: "Maybe In Another Life" by Taylor Jenkins Reid, "You Were There, Too" by Colleen Oakley, and "One Day in December" by Josie Silver.

This isn't the love story you’re expecting and that’s why this was unputdownable. Fantastic novel about choices, careers, friendship and love.

“In five years” is a novel about two women’s friendship. They met when they were young. They are now in their thirties and share new moments together: work accomplishments, love, successes and losses. The main character, Dannie, has a life plan full with the right job, the right apartment in the right location, the right life partner. One day, she has a dream in which she is in a new apartment, with a man she does not know in five years time as indicated on the tv. Time goes by and we move toward the fateful day which brings closure to a beautiful story. This is a very well written novel. It keeps you guessing to what will really happen to these beautiful characters. A must-read.
