Inspired by the real events, this docudrama turns out a gripping, engaging and suspenseful thriller with shocking turns and twists.

Infidel is not a true story, nor is it "based" on a true story, in that loose, movie way. It is in fact a confabulation of parts of incidents that did happen, and things the filmmakers think might happen, somewhere, at sometime. It would be interesting if instead they had told the stories of real people listed in the link, but honestly, I don't think they have the mental horses. Instead, Infidel is a standard C-grade action film; the acting, production, and action scenes are fine. Overall, if you want a movie where swarthy people yell at and torture Jim Caviezel, try Passion of the Christ. If that's not available, Infidel is a decent substitute.

There's lots of suspense in this film! It is a bit stressful to watch and intense, but it kept me on the edge of my seat!

I thought that the acting was spot on. You could see what was coming a mile away, even without reading the dust jacket. No surprises. It cost more lives in the rescue than those that were saved. He was warned and disregarded the warnings. Nevertheless, it does expose the intolerance of the followers of Islam to alternative ideas. And the murder of the terrorist's daughter by her father for trying to escape the restrictions of their religion was very true, and the extent of honour killings in our own country go unreported. Reminds me of the current crop of politicians and university hacks in regard to our losing our formerly respected freedom of speech.

3* Acting not the best. A true story and scary.

I saw this film in theaters and was face-palm after face-palm moment. The absolute entitlement of the character Doug Rawlins and his wife is unbelievable. First he is told not to go to Cairo because of the increase of violence by everyone. He is told not to preach during his tour. He is warned multiple times because this could result in bad things, repeatedly. This guy brushes them off. It was hard to feel bad for him. If you're going to poke a growling dog, you're probably going to get bit. If that isn't enraging enough, there are so many times where the characters just pause when they should be running, hiding, or escaping. After this film, I had to sit in my seat for a minute to digest the unapologetic annoyance reverberating in my veins. This story is there but the execution was sorely lacking.

🤨 Interesting that this direct-to-video film released in 2020 has (above) a blurb from Roger Ebert, who died years ago. (note added 2/28/21: Apparently they took the Ebert reference out.. Another blow for freedom!)
