I'm not sure what made me pick this book up. It was probably just the fact that I had never read about a blind person and it interested me. Normally, reading about romances like the one it talks about in the description would turn me away. One of the things I hate most in books is love triangles, but for some reason I decided to give this one a go. Nevertheless, I am so glad that I did read this. I went into it pretty blindly, as I hadn't read many reviews on it or anything. I read this really quickly (two days) and that is mainly because I instantly fell in love with the story. The main character Parker has a really strong attitude. She is bossy, and doesn't let her blindness stop her from anything, including running track. I know that some would find her annoying, but I actually really liked her personality. And at times her 'unstopableness' was infectious and inspiring. But the main reason that I liked Parker was because she was so unlike every other character that I have read about. So many YA characters are so happy-yellow sun-rainbows & sparkles-nothing is wrong. But Parker has faced hard times. Her mother died when she was very young, she became blind when she was young, and now her Dad has just passed away and she is learning how to live and deal with her relatives who don't seem to understand her. So Parkers life is far from easy, and that shows in her behaviour. Her emotions reflect her past and the things that she has been through. So when I read that there was a boy from past and a boy in present, and immediately suspected that something would happen between the two and that something of a love triangle would rise. But like Parker does, I was expecting to hate boy from past and fall in love with boy in present. And I was half right. I did fall in love with boy in present, but I also fell in love with boy from past. And I have found one book. Only one that has a love triangle that didn't frustrate me until I wanted to pull every last hair from my head. All of the characters had so much depth, and backstory to them, that you could tell that the author had put a lot of time into this masterpiece. I find it very remarkable and incredible and awesome and fabulous that this is written by Eric Windstorm. Not only is he a guy who has written a completely realistic female character but this is also his debut novel. Pure talent that you don't often see in debut novels. I really can't wait for more from this guy.
