As usual, Christie has a couple of tricks up her sleeve and goes to extraordinary lengths to fool her readers as to the outcome. The story starts a bit slowly but picks up the pace and gains complexity farther on. Quite far-fetched, but what who-done-it isn't! Poirot can of course be insufferable at times, but by telling the tale in a third person manner, Christie allows the story itself to sit front and centre while the annoying little detective is mercifully just one of the players. An amusing diversion between sessions of reading weightier material.
